Superbowl Sunday - just a block from the Stadium

Our family lives only a few blocks from the U.S.Bank Stadium and this week, as the city prepares for the Superbowl, it has been 'interesting' to see what really happens.

Traffic reroutes, homeless shelters closed and moved, tickets and tow trucks clean the roads and parking becomes scarce. All the prices of everything go up just a bit and suddenly the traffic thickens on every route.  Extra lights at night, a few extra helicopters in the day, and BOGO sales on all snack items, everywhere. The DJ's and local news anchors feel like celebrities for a brief moment and all the commercials show our front yard... it's a bit creepy.

I'll be happy when Monday comes and the streets clear, the tourists phase out and the priorities of people shift once again from QUALITY rather than POP CULTURE; one of the things I love most about Minneapolis, is the humble attitude. Seeing people gush over another person, is awkward. Seeing the cost of guacamole double because Justin Timberlake ordered it, is stupid.

Sigh, so I wait for the busyness to pass and pray that nothing is vandalized. I'm sure the rest of the nation will not see the news coverage of the protests, the paddy wagons lining the exits off every highway ramp or the scalping of prices on everything...

  1. I totally agree with you. You never know what goes on behind the scenes. You're lucky to experience what it's like.
